Gastric Sleeve: 3 Weeks Post Op!
Hello everyone! It has been awhile since my last post. The last time I even made a post was the day before I had my Gastric Sleeve Surgery, and now I am 3 weeks post op. How crazy! So, definitely time for some updating!
To start off, I am feeling really good! I am not having any pain, and really have not had any pain for awhile now. The actual surgery pain was not so bad, it was controlled pretty well with the meds. And once I was home from the hospital I was able to manage with just some Tylenol every one in awhile. The bad pain was the gas pain! I had a lot of gas pain, and it took about a week for that to completely subside. And I did use a lot of meds to help the gas, and I also did a lot of walking. Walking is truly the best medicine for gas pain!
Second off, it is amazing the changes I have made and that I am seeing. It was so crazy to me that eating anything just sounded so disgusting for so long. It took probably a good week and a half before food even sounded good or looked good to me. And once I could start eating a little bit, as in having pureed food, it was crazy to me how little of that I would eat and feel so full. And that is still true now that I am on a soft food diet. I eat very little and feel very content, and it still amazes me. It has been tricky, though. Especially since I need to get in 60 grams of protein in a day. I have had to think very carefully about exactly what to eat to be sure I am eating a lot of protein. In other words, I have been living off of eggs, deli meat, and cheese. As those things are fairly high in protein. Also, protein shakes, lots of protein shakes. It has been difficult, but I have been doing pretty good. Also, getting in enough fluids has been a slight challenge, too! Because, I can't guzzle like I could before, I can only sip, or I feel sick. And I also have wait 45 minutes after I eat before I can have anything to drink, and that is super hard for me because I am so used to drinking with my meals. But in between, I try very hard to drink as much as a possibly can, as I really don't want to be dehydrated and have to go in and get fluids! So I am working really hard at that!
Third off, I have been doing a lot of walking! Me and my mom having been going for a walk every single night together. And I really enjoy it. For one, it gets me in a little bit of exercise and helps me to gain my strength and stamina back after being kind of weakened with surgery. It just all around makes me feel good and I like it, a lot! I really kind of want to get into a good exercise routine, of more than just walking. As exercise is really important in trying to lose weight, and too can help me maybe tone up a little bit, too since I am going to eventually get kind of a saggy skin issue going.
Lastly, I just need to say that I feel I have done pretty well since beginning this journey. I began this journey in May, and since that point, I have lost 57 pounds! About 20 of those pounds have been lost since I had surgery! So, already this is really forcing me to change my habits and eat less, and eat healthier! And I am so happy it is, because I feel so much better eating healthier than I ever did eating unhealthy! So I plan to continue working hard and eating right! That doesn't mean I won't still treat myself to things, once I get to that point and I won't enjoy foods I really love. I just will eat tiny amounts of them, an treat them as a treat and not as a staple in my diet. This journey is not easy by any stretch of the imagination, but it is really worth it and I am looking to continuing my better and healthier life!
Continue to keep me in your prayers and if you have any questions for me, feel to ask! Thank-you all!
