Gastric Sleeve Surgery Tomorrow!
Oh my goodness everyone! My Gastric Sleeve Surgery is TOMORROW, September 14 at 12:30pm! I am super nervous as there are some unknowns as to how I am going to feel and how recovery will be. But I am also super excited for the journey ahead and to live a healthier, happier, and better life. I know it won't be easy and it will be a lot of hard work, but I am ready for the lifestyle change and am determined to succeed! I serve a big God and I know he will guiding the surgeons hands and laying his healing hands on me as the all mighty healer! He will also be guiding me and holding me through this entire journey. Its crazy to think that I began this crazy journey back in May and now the day is already here! Let me tell you what has all happened in this journey.
My very first appointment was a seminar. At this seminar, my surgeon, Dr. Schram, talked about the 3 different options for weight loss surgery and all the benefits, risks, and what they all entail. Then after the seminar was over, I met with him 1 on 1 to discuss the best option for me. And that is when we decided that the Gastric Sleeve Surgery was best for me.
My next appointment I had was with the dietitian. I talked with her about the pre-op diet, and also a little bit about how my diet will change after I have surgery. She didn't go into a lot of detail, as she just wanted to go over things in general and give me a bit of an idea of what would be happening.
The next appointment was with a behaviorist. This appointment was just for them to learn how I function psychologically, emotionally, and mentally. That way they could best figure out how to help along this journey as there will be a lot of big changes, and they want me to succeed in every way possible. They also wanted to be sure I was mentally ready for this journey and I wasn't just doing it because I was told I had to.
After those appointments, I then had to have a bunch of lab work done, and I also had to have a medical clearance to be sure I was healthy enough for surgery. At the medical clearance all they did was listen to my heart and lungs and also did an EKG to make sure my heart was health enough for surgery. It was really simple and not much involved.
After all of that, I had my final decision appointment, in which I set a date for surgery and talked with the doctor about what would be happening and also they could answer all of my questions.
I then had a pre-op appointment 3 weeks before my scheduled surgery date in which I talked with my dietitian about the pre-op diet and everything I would have to do to get my body ready for surgery. She went into great detail, and also talked to me some about my diet after surgery, too. I then met with Physician Assistant to go over all of the details of surgery day and make sure she had my medical history correct. She also ordered all the prescriptions I am going to need.
The very last appointment I had was at the hospital, and that was just for some final pre-surgery testing and also to talk to the anesthesiologist about what would happen when they would put me to sleep for surgery. Also to just go over any final concerns or questions about surgery.
And now that last 2 weeks I have been on my pre-surgery diet. I have been drinking 2 protein shakes a day to replace 2 of my meals. And then my other meal I could only eat 4-6oz of meat and then as much vegetables as I wanted until I was satisfied. I could also only drink things like water and crystal light. And now these last 2 days have been a liquid diet, no solid foods. And the next couple of weeks will also be a liquid diet after surgery.
As you can see it has been a long road, but not near as long as it could have been. And I am very blessed and thankful that it has all gone so smooth! I am ready for my surgery and I have God on my side guiding me and holding! Please keep me in your prayers! Thank-you!
