Camp Counselor??
Hey everyone! So...it has been a little too long since my last post. BUT this one I think will make up for it! I have a possibility for something I am going to be doing this summer!
This past Sunday evening, I decided to relax by watching a movie on Netflix. So, I was searching through the movies and came across a movie called Camp. This is a small, low budget movie, but is not too bad, it is pretty good. It is about this little boy named, Eli, who was abused in his home, and was put into a foster home and then got sent to a 1 week camp over the summer. It also is about a business man, named, Ken, who decides to be a counselor at the camp in order to win over someone he is looking into partnering with in his business. And Eli and Ken end up getting paired together at camp, Ken, being Eli's personal counselor. And the movie just follows their week at camp and how they change and become better people throughout the week. Kind of a typical storyline that is predictable, but it is still a really cute movie with a great message. And, at the end of the movie are some real life people and their real life stories about this camp. And that is when I suddenly became interested in this camp, and decided to research it online.
In my searching online about the camp, I learned exactly what it is. The camp is called Royal Family Kids and has many camp locations across the United States. And, it is a camp that is for kids in the foster system that they can attend to get some one on one attention from a counselor and have some fun and get attention, love, and affection, that they have never had before. It is also a Christian based camp where the kids also learn about God. Each kid is paired with their own counselor that sticks with them throughout the whole week so they get special attention and can have someone they know loves them and that they can trust to care for them and be there for them. It is basically a week that allows the kids to just let loose, and have some fun. I also learned that there are some camps located here in Michigan, and closest one is located in Plainwell, Michigan. So, I proceeded to contact the camp director for that location and just had a phone conversation today with her about the camp. It was really cool to hear more details about what goes on and what my job would be as a counselor!
After watching that movie, and doing research, and talking with the camp director, I am definitely feeling like this is something God is telling me I need to do and pushing me to do. I just feel this very big tug on my heart that is just telling me "DO IT!" So, I have filled the application out, and have scanned it into my computer and sent it to the camp director, along with a copy of drivers license! So I am thinking this will be a good thing for me, and I think will be something I will really enjoy, considering I do have a pretty big love for kids! I also feel like it is something that may challenge me some, too, as I don't really have experience with potentially abused and neglected kids. I do have experience with kids who have difficult home lives, but never to the extreme of abuse or neglect!
So, all I am saying is, let God's will be done! I am definitely hoping this opportunity can happen and will be something I can do this summer for 1 week! I do think it will be good for me and will help me grow and learn and be challenged a little! We will see! Be in prayer for me about this, and I am definitely going to be in prayer about it, too! :)

I yhink ot is a great idea, but just make sure if you do it that it is Gods will and not yours. Having worked with foster kid i know that,Yes it will be fun and rewading, but it will also be EXTREMELY hard. Just be prepared
ReplyDeleteYes, I figured it can't hurt to send in the application and go for an interview. And like I said, let God's will be done. If it is something he thinks I should do, then they will ask me to be part of the camp, if not then they will say they have all the counselors they need. And, I do realize it will be tough. If I do get accepted, there is about 12 hours of training that I would be doing, too, to help with preparations. And I know foster kids have had tough lives. I am aware it will be hard, but I think I do need a challenge in life. And if I do end up going, I am sure God will do some amazing things and really challenge me. We will see!
